NSG 210 Nursing Role and Scope
Introduces students to the professional roles, responsibilities, and scope of practice of the registered nurse within contemporary healthcare systems. The course explores the history and evolution of nursing, professional standards, legal and ethical responsibilities, healthcare policy, and regulatory frameworks that guide nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on professional identity formation, accountability, patient advocacy, and interprofessional collaboration. Students examine leadership principles, quality and safety initiatives, and the nurse’s role in promoting patient-centered and culturally competent care across diverse healthcare settings. The course also integrates a Christian worldview, emphasizing servant leadership, compassion, ethical decision-making, and holistic care of patients’ physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Students develop foundational professional behaviors and explore lifelong learning and career development within the nursing profession. 3 credit hours.
