Semester Plan
The university offers a variety of schedules: a semester schedule and a term schedule. The semester schedule includes two fifteen-week semesters per year and one twelve-week semester during the summer. The term schedule includes six eight-week terms throughout the year:
Fall Semester – 15 weeks
Fall Term 1 – 8 weeks
Fall Term 2 – 8 weeks
J-Term – 6 days
Spring Semester – 15 weeks
Spring Term 3 – 8 weeks
Spring Term 4 – 8 weeks
Summer Semester– 12 weeks
Summer Term 5 – 8 weeks
Summer Term 6 – 8 weeks
The unit regularly used for the measurement of credit toward graduation is the semester hour, which is the equivalent of the credit earned in a course which meets one hour per week for a semester. Thus, a class which meets two hours per week for a semester is a two-semester-hour course; one which meets three hours a week for a semester is a three-semester-hour course. For the purpose of converting transferred quarter hours into semester hours, the following formula is used: the number of semester hours is two-thirds the number of quarter hours.
A student must be enrolled for a minimum of twelve semester hours of work per 15-week semester or combined 8-week terms within the same semester to be classified as a full-time student. For example, a student enrolled in Fall Term 1 for 6 semester hours and Fall Term 2 for 6 semester hours is considered full-time.
Enrollment for more than twenty semester hours requires the permission of the Registrar. Students on academic probation may take no more than fifteen semester hours without approval of the Registrar.
FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS CATALOG, SEMESTER HOURS WILL BE CALLED CREDIT HOURS.
