SCI 310 Microbiology
This course examines microorganisms and their role in human health and disease. Topics include microbial structure and function, metabolism, genetics, host-pathogen interactions, immune response, epidemiology, infection control, and antimicrobial therapies. Emphasis is placed on clinical relevance, infection prevention, and application to nursing and healthcare practice. The laboratory component provides hands-on experience with microbiological techniques, including microscopy, culturing, staining, microbial identification, and aseptic procedures. Students apply laboratory safety standards while developing skills necessary for understanding infectious disease transmission and prevention in healthcare environments. 3 semester hours credit.
