5100 Survey of Hospitality Management

An introductory course that provides a comprehensive overview of the dynamic and multifaceted global hospitality industry. Students will explore the historical evolution, scope, and diverse sectors that comprise this significant economic force, including lodging, food and beverage, meetings and events, travel and tourism, recreation, and entertainment. This course introduces fundamental principles of hospitality operations, emphasizing the application of key performance indicators and analytical reports for effective management and decision-making. Through a blend of theoretical frameworks and real-world examples, students will gain an understanding of the interconnectedness of various hospitality segments and the critical role of leadership in navigating this increasingly complex and interdependent industry. Three semester hours credit.
